Transitional ballistics - Transitional ballistics, also known as intermediate ballistics, is the study of a projectile's behavior from the time it leaves the muzzle until the pressure behind the projectile is equalized, so it lies between internal ballistics and external ballistics.
Internal ballistics - Internal ballistics, a subfield of ballistics, is the study of a projectile's behaviour, from the time it ignites the propellant to the time, it exits from the barrel of the firearm. The study of internal ballistics is important to designers and users of firearms of all types, from small-bore Olympic rifles and pistols, to high-tech artillery.
External ballistics - External ballistics is the part of ballistics that refers to the behavior of a bullet after it exits the barrel and before it hits the target. When in flight, the main forces acting on the projectile are gravity and air resistance.
Wound ballistics - The field of wound ballistics largely comprises the study of the physiology and medical effects of projectile weapons (chiefly, but not exclusively, bullets) on humans. It can be considered the intersection of medicine and terminal ballistics.
